INDIA: Dementia Website Launched By Alzheimer's Society

BANGALURU, Karnataka (The Hindu), September 21, 2007: Karnataka State Governor Rameshwar Thakur formally inaugurated a website on dementia at a ceremony today to mark Alzheimer's Day. “In India today, there is no proper awareness about this disease. Sometimes loss of memory is ignored as a part of the aging process,” said Ms.Radha Murthy, President of the Bangalore Chapter of the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI). “My father has been living with dementia for the last five years and dealing with it is a challenge, not so much for the patient, but for the caregivers. For my mother, who is the main caregiver, it is a taxing job,” said Hari Nair, a caregiver who works in an IT company.
