CANADA: An Aging And Divided Workforce

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--Just as Canadian society keeps on aging, so does its workforce. A recent study by Statistics Canada has found that the employment rate among seniors has risen sharply, and is likely to continue rising., says a report in the WALL STREET JOURNAL  on August 16.

Much of that has to do with increasing longevity, better health, and more flexible retirement rules.

But the study also shows that workers above the traditional retirement age of 65 fall into two distinct camps: relatively affluent individuals who choose to continue working in their fields but on their own terms, and the relatively poor whose retirement savings don't stretch far enough...
