USA: Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, ends medical treatment to 'spend her last days at home'

LONDON, England / The Daily Mail / TV & Showbiz / August 17, 2010

Legendary Hollywood actress Zsa Zsa Gabor has returned home from hospital to live out her final days, after refusing to undergo any more surgery

The 93-year-old actress, who has starred in films and television programmes since the 1950s, was earlier given her last rites by a priest at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, her husband said.

Frederick Prinz von Anhalt, Gabor’s ninth husband, said Gabor was conscious at the time but could only speak ‘very little’.

Barely conscious:
Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, seen returning home last week in a still frail condition after hip surgery, has now chosen to end her treatment

Doctors wanted to perform surgery on her liver that would give her a 50-50 chance survival rate, but Gabor and her husband decided 'she wanted to spend her final days at home,' publicist John Blanchette said.

The former beauty queen, who was once married to socialite Paris Hilton’s great-grandfather, spent last month in hospital for hip replacement surgery after falling out of bed in July.

Two days ago she returned to her mansion in Bel Air, but she was rushed back to hospital after suffering two blood clots following the surgery.

Her publicist, John Blanchette, said she broke her hip falling out of bed while watching the television game show Jeopardy!. ‘Her health has been up and down ever since,’ he said.

He said Gabor was in surgery for several hours yesterday to remove the clots from her upper body, one of them very close to her heart.

‘Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor has seen a priest and is not doing very well. She's in serious condition. She asked to see a priest and receive her last rites,’ he said.
